OrangeDesktopIIJMI’m an illustrator, cartoonist and writer. Words and pictures are everything to me.

My cartoons (which won first place at the 2017 NY Press Association Awards) appear in The Independent Newspaper, which comes out every Wednesday on the East End of Long Island, New York.
And you can see my illustrations, which appear in publications galore, at: www.fredrix.com.

My career in cartooning began in childhood. My older (and therefore larger) sister won all our sibling scuffles by simply sitting on me. I was tired of always being the one to say, “uncle!” So my solution was to draw a picture of her… naked. And then, on the day of her eighth birthday party, I finally got my revenge. While everyone’s attention was focused on a rousing game of Pin The Tail On The Donkey, I quietly placed the drawing on the table, right next to the birthday cake.
To this day, decades later, my heart still pounds with pleasure recalling the uproar, the tears and the threats that ensued upon the very public discovery of the drawing. It was on that day I learned, the pen is indeed mightier than the sword – or was it: a picture is worth a thousand swords? I did, of course forfeit, my slice of birthday cake that day. But, without a doubt, it was worth it!

I hope you’ll come back soon. I’ll put my weekly cartoon online on Wednesdays. And I will put all kinds of other swill online whenever I am trying to avoid my work, which means pretty frequently. So, feel free to drop me a line at hello@isitjustme.com. I’ll probably answer you back, because that’s another great way to avoid my work!
